Friends have accomplished so much for the Andrew Low House since its inception in 1999:

  • Friends has

    • purchased, and returned to the house, portraits of Andrew Low, Mary Low, and portraits of other family members.

    • acquired many furnishings for the collection including

      • the Philadelphia card table in the library

      • the Andre Roux shaving stand

      • the Cohen chair

      • other pieces found throughout the house

    • rescued important documents and family papers related to the history of the ALH.

    • made it possible to conserve and restore the portraits mentioned above through their funding

    • replaced the carpet on the main stair case

    • contributed to every major project undertaken by the Andrew Low House

      • 2007-8 conservation project

      • garden restoration project in 2009

    • set aside funds to replace the carpets and draperies on the parlor floor as those rooms are refreshed.

A reorganization of Friends has recently taken place —

As many of you are aware, the Andrew Low House completed the STEPS self-evaluation program from the American Association of State and Local History in 2014.  We have been actively addressing the issues recognized during this study. The accomplishments have been amazing including— a professional Personnel Manual, a revised Collection Management Policy, a Resolution of Permanence for the Andrew Low House, a Code  of Ethics for the site and the board, Standing Rules for the ALH Board, Guidelines for the Board members, and  a new Mission Statement and Mandate for the ALH.

Now, as the site moves toward accreditation by The American Alliance of Museums, we are aware that we must invite a larger community presence to support the site and its mission in order for the site to remain the unparalleled jewel of the NSCDA in GA.  For this reason and for sustainability, Friends has been reorganized this year to provide a wider choice of annual membership levels and to allow members of the greater community who are interested in the Andrew Low House to become Friends of the Andrew Low House as well.

New benefits and opportunities are being offered this year which we hope will give everyone greater incentive for becoming a “Friend”.
